Data Deletion Instructions

1. Overview

MeSober is designed with privacy-first principles. Deleting your data is simple and can be done entirely within the app.

Good News: MeSober does not require user accounts or collect personal information like names or emails. Your consumption data is stored on your device and iCloud (if enabled), not on our servers.

2. What Data Exists

3. Delete All Data (Recommended)

The easiest way to delete all your data is using the in-app button:

1 Open MeSober

Launch the MeSober app on your iPhone or iPad.

2 Go to Settings

Tap the gear icon in the top corner to open Settings.

3 Tap "Delete All Data"

Scroll down and tap the "Delete All Data" button.

4 Confirm Deletion

Confirm that you want to delete all data. This action is irreversible.

What Gets Deleted:

All consumption logs from your device
All consumption logs from iCloud (removed from all your synced devices)
All notes and entries
Your push notification token from our server
Your timezone from our server

iCloud Sync Clarification

When you use "Delete All Data," the deletion syncs via CloudKit to all devices signed into your iCloud account. This means:

Data is removed from your iPhone, iPad, and any other Apple devices using MeSober
The deletion propagates automatically through iCloud
You don't need to delete separately on each device

4. Alternative: Uninstall the App

You can also delete your data by uninstalling the app:

Local data: Deleted when you uninstall the app
iCloud data: May remain in iCloud until you manually remove it. To fully remove: iOS Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > Manage Storage > MeSober > Delete Data
Server data: Our server automatically removes invalid push tokens when Apple reports them as unregistered (typically within 24-48 hours)

Important Note

If you uninstall the app without using "Delete All Data" first, your iCloud data may persist. We recommend using the in-app deletion button before uninstalling to ensure complete data removal.

5. Export Before Deleting

If you want to keep a copy of your data before deleting:

Open MeSober Settings
Tap "Export Data"
Choose where to save your data file (JSON format)
Then proceed with deletion

Initial Response: Within 72 hours
Request Completion: Within 30 days (as required by GDPR)

Please include a description of your situation. Since we don't collect personal information, we may ask you to verify your device token if needed.

7. Third-Party Services

Apple iCloud

Data synced to iCloud is managed by Apple. The "Delete All Data" button in the app removes your MeSober data from CloudKit. You can also manage iCloud data through:

iOS Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > Manage Storage > MeSober
iCloud.com > Account Settings > Advanced > Restore Files

AI Services (OpenAI/Groq)

Voice transcripts sent to AI providers are processed in real-time and not stored by our server. The transcript is discarded immediately after processing. For AI provider data retention policies, please refer to:

8. Your Rights Under GDPR

Under GDPR Article 17 ("Right to Erasure"), you have the right to request deletion of your personal data. MeSober makes this easy:
